Catherine Cookson country

Durham CathedralFrom 4th–8th July 2010 we will be taking a trip to the heart of Northumberland to stay in the Caledonian Hotel in Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne, with some fabulous excursions planned.

Excursions include visits to Cragside House, Beamish open air museum, and tours of Catherine Cookson country and an afternoon visit to the cathedral city of Durham, with time to explore at your leisure.

Bedroom at the Caledonian HotelThe holiday will include half board breakfast and dinner, and we have 18 single rooms available.

The Caledonian Hotel is located in Jesmond, a chic and leafy area ideally situated for the thriving city of Newcastle as well as being near to the Northumberland countryside. Built in 1870, it has recently been refurbished and displays some classic Georgian architecture as well as being home to a very popular and successful bistro and bar.

The holiday will cost £285 but places can be reserved for only £10: book now or be disappointed!

Excursions include a trip to the Beamish Museum, a world famous open air museum telling the story of the people of North East England at two important points in their history – 1825 and 1913. Beamish stands in 300 acres of beautiful County Durham countryside, and what sets it apart from glass case museums is that the story is told not by labels but by costumed staff who are proud of their heritage and happy to share their knowledge with visitors.

Craigside HouseAlso included is a trip to the National Trust’s Cragside House, the revolutionary home of Lord Armstrong, Victorian creator and landscape genius. The variety and scale of Cragside’s gardens are incredible – surrounding the house on all sides are one of the largest handmade rock gardens in Europe. The gardens are also home to England’s tallest Douglas fir and provide one of the last shelters to the endangered red squirrel.

Catherine Cookson Country signIn addition, we will be turning the clock back almost 100 years and taking the Catherine Cookson tour, reliving the fascinating life of one of the country’s best loved and most read authors.

Please come into the office by 25th January with your £10 deposit – don’t miss out!
